In the thrilling game between the Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes during the 2023–2024 Big Bash League, England’s Tom Curran found it difficult to field. The Sydney Sixers, led by Moises Henriques, and the Hobart Hurricanes engaged in a low-scoring game at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground in the Big Bash League’s fifth match. The responsibility fell to Sydney Sixers lower-order batsman CJ Anderson, who was spearheading his team’s batting attack after reducing the Hobart Hurricanes to 69-5 in the opening nine overs.

Curran was positioned at a considerable distance and could only watch as Anderson hit a boundary in the 13th over of the innings. While providing commentary during the match, legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting brought attention to a little-known event involving the England player. For Curran, it was “flames out of nowhere” as the England player was retrieving the ball from the boundary line. Look at Tom Curran, guys, and pay attention to this. Watch him leap, then have a look at this,” Ponting said, eliciting a lot of laughter from the commentary box.

Anderson was finally removed by Curran in the 17th over, having scored 17 off 27 balls. Curran gave up 19 runs in four overs of bowling. During the Hobart Hurricanes vs. Sydney Sixers BBL match, the Englishman was also his team’s preferred bowler. Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, and Jack Edwards split eight wickets between them. Speaking more about the game, the Hobart Hurricanes’ best scorer against the Sydney Sixers was Caleb Jewell. With cameos from Chris Jordan (16) and Patrick Dooley (19), Jewell’s 42 off 24 balls helped the Hurricanes reach 135-8 in 20 overs.
