The Paarl Royals have acknowledged that Allen was mugged, but they have described it as a “isolated incident” and said that the club and the league have given the all-rounder the assistance he needs.

“Pawl Royals would like to state that the West Indian all-rounder is safe and enjoying his time at the SA20 as he, along with his teammates and support staff, prepares for the all-important Eliminator on Wednesday,” the team said in a statement on Tuesday in response to a media report regarding an isolated incident with Fabian Allen in Johannesburg in the early hours of January 25, 2024.

Playing cricket for the West Indies on the international scene, Allen, 28, was allegedly stolen of his phone and personal items at gunpoint.

In order to protect the players’ and staff’s safety and wellbeing, the franchise works closely with the league while also granting them free time for personal activities. The athlete was eager to continue competing at the SA20 after the event and received the required backing from the team and the league. Since then, he has been eligible for selection and has twice been in the Royals starting lineup.

It continued, “We would ask the media to refrain from speculating further about his and his teammates’ safety so they can concentrate on the important match ahead of them.”

Allen has represented the West Indies in 20 ODIs and 34 T20Is.

In the current SA20 season, Allen has taken two wickets and amassed 38 runs for the Paarl Royals, who take on the Johannesburg Super Kings in the Eliminator on Wednesday.

On February 10, the league final will take place.
